Old Mesilla
I arrived in New Mexico yesterday. I finished War in Heaven right as we landed, and I hated the ending. However, up until then I enjoyed it. Comosea.
And once again I experienced the joys of time changes and managed to stay up till the equivalent of 12:50ish after eating some of the best barbequed chicken ever. Slept for about twelve hours. Then had some of the best pancakes ever. Then we went to Old Mesilla. Lots of small shops selling miscelaneous oddities. I got a few postcards. We walked through the building where Billy the Kid was tried and sentenced. And then we got chocolate ice cream and pistachio brittle... very good stuff.
Had pizza for dinner followed by chocolate chip cookies. I now understand Lydia's difficulties with SAGA. Fed the animals. I got to pet the half blue swedish half Indian running duck. Indian running ducks don't waddle... or not noticeably. Then Lydia and I sat out on the trampoline and looked at the stars. I can understand why New Mexico is called the land of enchantment... although I'm not sure I can forgive it for the lack of dragons, I still think it would be a fun place to live. It definately is to visit.

Clearly, it's time for you to hunt down some P.G. Wodehouse, Saki, George Macdonald, and more Williams (he wrote 7 or 8 novels which are all good stuff.)
As far as War in Heaven is concerned, I guess the ending is obnoxious... the first time. Read it a couple more times and it grows on you.
I have followed your excellent advice and finally checked the local library for Wodehouse, surfacing with a collection of short stories entitled Wodehouse is the Best Medicine. Saki will have to wait. I can raid my mother's collection of George Macdonald. However, if anyone knows where on earth I could find more Williams, I would be extremely grateful if they would share.
