I just got up...
but I stayed up until 5:26 last night finishing Myst. It was fun... Ok, so a lot happened yesterday that should probably be blogged...
First, we found a house! it's about thirty houses up the street from where we live, has a two car garage with plenty of room for dad to build another one, has a very nice room above the garage that it looks like may be mine : ) and, yeah, it's a nice house. As far as I know... we've put in an offer on it, but haven't closed on it yet... so *shrugs*. We'll see.
Second, *grins* I finally did something with Greek and it was fun. I tackled John 1:1-18ish... it got into a lot of words I wasn't familiar with towards the end and there's just something about looking every other word up in a dictionary that makes it hard to understand. But up till then it went pretty smoothly. I don't know what it is... but I think translation committees lose the personality. *shrugs* either that or personality doesn't translate well. We put so much emphasis on the unity of scriptures and the role God had in their writing... sometimes it feels like all the books just run together into this gray mess. *shakes head* But reading it in Greek, even though my understanding is halting and largely based on familiarity with the passage in English, it's easier to realize that this was written by a person - a person working with God in such a way that God was able to communicate his word through them. And I get tingles up and down my spine and my stomach does flip flops and yeah, I think I'm in the right major.
*sighs*
anyway, the rest of the day, when I wasn't reading John 1, was pretty much playing Civilization III (so much for alphabetizing my Greek vocab cards (I've been wanting to do that for a while as a means of eliminating duplicates. You have no idea what it's like reviewing vocabulary for two hours and swearing that you've seen at least a dozen of the words before...) oh well)
Then at 11, which came sooner than I expected, I hurriedly threw some books, writing materials, cd player, and all the five iron frenzy I could find (you laugh, it helps me stay awake) into a backpack and drove to the Knauer's to sit on their couch and hope Rachel slept well and didn't need anything. They were going to see star wars - the midnight showing - the whole family - except *dramatic pause* the little sister. And so I was there in case anything should go wrong. And apart from some really creepy creaking nothing did. Although, their cat is a little too... forward. I was sitting on the couch comfortably reading the last book of Myst when the cat approaches across the living room floor. It's staring at me, and not even meowing, just making this strange sort of sound which could be mistaken for the English word "ah?" if one had any sort of imagination, which, of course, I do. (I would just like to take this moment to say that Sarah HATES COMMAS. Alright, back to the story.) So the cat just stands there about a foot away from me, staring up at me, and making this strange sound. Then after a brief moment of calculation, it jumps up on my lap! Here I am in a strange house reading and the cat is, well, (here if I were my sister or Wilson, I'm sure I could make this story a lot more interesting than it is. Alas and fortunately, I am neither.) demanding attention. So I scratched it's head for a while. It stared at the book for a while and got that weird look cats have when their heads are scratched. Then after I'd had sufficient time to contemplate how freaked out I would be if the cat spoke, it nonchalantly stepped across the book and departed. I don't think I saw it again the whole evening.
alright, so to make a looong story short, I read Myst till they got back, then I drove home and was amazed to see at least two other vehicles on the road at that hour. Got home at about 3:20 AM. I was on page 813 of Myst and decided to go ahead and finish it. So I stayed up till 5:26 and did that, and then I slept in till two and imed people.
