I have a compliant mother.
Well, in order to motivate me to take care of the last four boxes of mine in the garage (and they are big scary boxes with a hodge podge of stuff that will likely be very hard to find a place for and very hard to let go) Mom set a limit on computer time until it was finished. So I spent a lot of today looking for fun creative things to do to avoid unpacking boxes or worse boredom. It all started with the discovery of glue guns. Make no mistakes, my sister is the Gluegun Queen, and she has the scars to prove it. I had always left that as her thing. However, after the hanging Jones' Soda bottle contraption fell apart; I decided to try it. Glue guns are incredible! I finished gluing six of the bottles together to make a hanging knick knack shelf for my sister. Then I glued labels onto an old binder which turned out terrific. Then I glued lids together into a spherical shape and started putting bottles in them... unfortunately, the glue does not stick to glass very well... and wasn't strong enough to hold together the entire sphere of bottles. However, with an internal support structure and some modification to either the materials or the design of the hanging shelf, I have no doubt that both designs will successfully utilize the bottles I've had laying around for too long now.
In other news, I've decided to take up encaustic. 1. It looks fun. 2. I have a lot of old crayons. 3. I'll get to play with fire and color. 4. It could finally achieve this one effect that I've been trying to do for a year and a half. Towards this end, I hope to borrow my sister's curling iron that she no longer uses... and at the moment she's trying to talk me into using open flame, on the grounds that it is "more controllable."
In the meantime there are still three boxes in the garage with my name on them. I took care of two boxes today, and mom was extremely nice and let me have more than two hours on the computer (hence I'm typing this). However, I think days really are better when I have to look for alternatives to the computer... considering that I actually picked up a coloring book today, my choice of alternatives may need evaluation. Oh, and I found a picture of me (at age four) climbing the tree in our backyard. I was cute, if I do say so myself. Pity it didn't last.
